Inter Wichita is excited to announce the appointment of Lewis Derrett as the new Head Coach. He will be taking charge of the team for the upcoming Spring UPSL 2022 season.
Lewis Derrett spent four seasons as a member of the coaching staff at Southwestern College before rising to become the Head Coach in 2021. Prior to coaching at Southwestern College, Coach Derrett played eight years for Barnsley Academy back in Barnsley, England. Following his time at Barnsley, he continued his playing career for the University of Great Falls. At UGF, Derrett started and captained a team that reached the national tournament and was consistently ranked in the NAIA top 25.
After his playing career at UGF, he was invited to stay on staff as a coach for a year before accepting his position at Southwestern College. Through his first season with the Southwestern College men’s team, he was instrumental in leading the team to their best season in school history.
“Coach Derrett is one of our most valuable assets and we greatly appreciate his work,” Says Kyle Pond, the Associate Athletic Director at Southwestern College. “As a young coach, he has an amazing eye for the game and technical training. He has spent his entire life playing at an extremely high level and understands what it takes to be a successful and developing player.”
Lewis Derrett stood out among several coaches interviewed for the position. “I grew up in Africa and was heavily influenced by the European style of play.” Said Aka Kouame, Inter Wichita’s Executive Director. “Coach Derrett seemed the best fit for us, since we are a new club looking to establish our own culture and identity. The board and I are look forward to working with him this upcoming season and wish him and the team all the best.”
