On May 2nd 2021, International Wichita played their first ever competitive match against Sunflower State FC in Kansas City. The game started off in incredible fashion by Inter Wichita going ahead by 2 goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. The perfect start didn’t last long, Sunflower State were fortunate to land on a spilled ball in the penalty area and slipped it past the Inter Wichita goalkeeper to reduce the goal deficit by half. Moments later they happened to find the equalizer from a decent shot from outside the penalty area. A little before half time Inter Wichita slotted in their third goal from the penalty spot after our player was fouled in the box.

The second half was a hotly contested spectacle as both teams went head to head. It was mid in the second half that Sunflower State managed to squeeze a shot past the Inter Wichita goalkeepers left side. We tried hard to get back into the lead but the opponents managed to squash any efforts by Inter Wichita. While looking for the winner, we were left exposed at the back and Sunflower State scored 2 goals in the span of 3 minutes. The game ended 5-3 in favor of the opponents.

As much as the game didn’t go as planned, We were proud of our boys. The team showed a glimpse of what they are capable of and the only way is up after the first inaugural game. Next weekend Inter Wichita will be travelling to Iowa to face Des Moines UTD.
